Decarbonising Transport: Bust of Boom for the Automotive Industry?

This event brought together industry experts to explore the future of transport decarbonisation.

In Session 1: Electrification Only – Boom or Bust?, the panel delved into the current shift towards electric vehicles, examining whether electrification is the ultimate solution or just one piece of the puzzle. Discussions included the evolving automotive landscape and how emerging technologies could transform heavy-duty transport.

In Session 2: Status Quo or Something Else?, the focus turned to alternative approaches. Experts explored the future of urban mobility, the potential of connected and autonomous vehicles, changing ownership models, and innovative light transport solutions that could reshape our cities.

Brendan Bilton CTO and Founder, Element-2 Ltd.
A qualified Metallurgist and Materials Scientist, Brendan has spent the last 25 years in the renewable energy sector. His main areas of expertise are in Fuel Cells and Hydrogen technologies and has been the CEO of several start-up companies in this sector. In 2020 Brendan teamed up with Tim Harper to form the company Element 2 Ltd which is focussed on building a hydrogen refuelling network in the UK for Heavy Duty commercial vehicles. The target is to have network of 50 stations with >150 dispensing pumps by 2030. In addition to his business interests, Brendan is a member of the Parliamentary Group for Energy Studies, The Energy Industries Club and The Bessemer Society.
